53 Broadway Avenue, Palmerston North
The Regent Theatre Trust Board are thrilled and excited to announce the appointment of a new Theatre Manager for the Regent on Broadway.
Kathiy Watson has been appointed to replace the long-serving former Manager Charles Forbes who resigned earlier this year after many years of faithful service.
Kathiy comes to us from her immediate past role as Theatre Manager of The Hannah Playhouse in Wellington and brings her experience in Theatre Management, Event Management and People Management to our Theatre. Kathiy also has extensive connections in the Arts, Dance and Entertainment Industry and along with her Entrepreneurial skills, brings a new approach and vision to our Theatre. These connections and skills will ensure we continue to attract a large range of entertainment product both from within New Zealand and (when Covid-19 permits) from International sources.
Regent Theatre Trust Board chairman David Lea said the board had held an extensive search for a new manager over a 3 month
period, recognising the important role the position has in the City Councils vision to become A “Powerhouse” of The Arts for our city and region and to ensure The Regent plays a major part in realising that vision.
37 quality applicants were received which made our job onerous but we were all thrilled with the quality of applicants and after considerable investigation and due diligence, satisfied that the best possible appointment was made.
Kathiy begins her role officially at the end of October but may be seen earlier as she settles into her new life and into the city. In the meantime, The Board are extremely lucky to have the services of our Acting Manager David Walsh, (a past Regent Manager and current front of house manager), steer us through this interim period.
An official Pōwhiri will be held at an appropriate time in the future where Kathiy will be welcomed to the City and to her new position as Manager of The Regent on Broadway.
