This beloved 1985 New Zealand comedic film set in 1949, based on the novel by Ronald Hugh Morrieson. Directed by Ian Mune, the movie follows two bumbling con artists who run a horse-racing betting scam in a small rural town, ultimately getting tangled up with eccentric locals, illegal casinos, and a deluded Māori man who believes he is a Mexican bandit.
