Vesa-Matti Leppänen Director/Violin Stephen DePledge Fortepiano J S Bach Goldberg Variations, BWV 988 J S Bach\'s Goldberg Variations is a masterpiece. First written for harpsichord, it opens with a beautifully tranquil and ornamented Aria followed by 30 intricate and distinct variations. NZSO brings this Baroque gem to regional audiences, with the variations performed on a variety of instruments. \"The different instruments will add a huge amount of colour to the variations, making an already exquisite work even more mesmerising for audiences\" says NZSO Concertmaster and Baroque Series Director Vesa-Matti Leppänen. \"Bach\'s Goldberg Variations is hauntingly beautiful and a work of genius. It\'s the most incredible piece.\" NZSO Setting up Camp The NZSO travels through Greater Wellington, Wairarapa, Palmerston North, Hamilton and Tauranga for several days for a variety of performances and activities. From evening concerts featuring Bach and Beethoven, to NZSO musicians providing educational opportunities and relaxed events for all ages, NZSO Setting up Camp is a great chance to spend time with your Orchestra and friends old and new.
